Dacia surprises by introducing the Easy-R robotic gearbox
Well, last summer, more precisely in June, the Dacia Group launched the new Dacia Logan with Easy-R robotic gearbox. In short, this car combines classic driving with that of automatic gearboxes.
The big news for the Argeș manufacturer last year was the introduction of the Robotic Easy-R box option. This transmission is intended to be a real help to others who are looking for a cheap car without the legendary manual transmission. The Easy-R transmission offers two automatic and manual driving modes. The gearshift is done by a computer, and the manual mode allows the driver to get involved in driving the car.
What is Easy-R? Piloted gearbox
In essence, Easy-R is a robotic gearbox offered by Renault that can easily compete with an automatic gearbox when it comes to driving comfort. The easy-r piloted box is unexpectedly useful especially in the city.
Dacia chose to produce a robotic box. In other words, this is a manual gearbox with robots that change gears for you. The steps change slowly but smoothly, the box is very well optimized.
Since we only have two pedals, the brake and the accelerator, we can say that by its nature it is practically a car with an automatic transmission. The lack of a clutch pedal confirms this. An Easy-R steered gearbox is about 10 kilograms heavier than a regular manual one. 3 new elements have been added that make the gear change automatic. The price for the piloted box option is 500 euros. Is it worth an extra 500 euros and a piloted box? Yes, it’s worth it, it will bring more comfort, it is suitable for the urban environment where you will not have to change gears like a manual gearbox.
Computer that knows when to change gears and transmits the information to the two electromechanical actuators that step on the clutch and change gears. You will also benefit from that indicator that will appear in the north in which it will tell you when to change gears (Gear shift indicator). It is useful when you do not know the car very well yet.
Although the advantages of this engine and gearbox are many, there are some disadvantages.
Advantages
You don't have to change the speed in automatic mode, you put it in D (Drive) you accelerate slightly when you leave the place and when you brake you downshift yourself, the turns know how to take them with the second gear downhill depending on the speed of the vehicle.
Of course the speed can be changed, it also has a manual mode in which the driver changes the gears sequentially by + and -.
Consumption identical to that offered by a manual gearbox. Therefore, regardless of whether you opt for the petrol version 1.0 or 0.9 Tce or the 1.5 dCI diesel engines, you will have the same consumption. At least that's what the representatives of the Dacia group claim.
Disadvantages Easy-R
A big disadvantage of this robotic gearbox is obviously the break between the gear changes that are made by this gearbox creating discomfort. Drivers who prefer the sporty driving style or when overtaking should know that cars with robotic transmission have a slower acceleration than those with a manual gearbox.
As there is no parking brake, the vehicle cannot be secured when stopping. The same thing with the robotic box cannot be put in step 1.
My conclusions. The difference is 500 euros for an Easy-R piloted box. Those who want a car with this gearbox will have to take out of their pocket around 2500 LEI. What do you say is worth it? The price is not a high price for Easy-R. Who would have thought that if a low cost car like Dacia came without a clutch pedal? There is nothing to blame. It is, after all, an innovation in technology.
I hope this article has made you better understand how things are with this modern box developed by Renault.
What do you say, is it worth 500 euros for this car model with Easy-R gearbox?
